What’s your favorite location on campus that’s not on our tour? Westhampton Center Deanery Garden. In the spring a sea of tulips emerges on the walkway to Dhall, and it feels like you’re invited to step into a totally new time and place. Think: trellised wisteria, sculpture art, soma stone seating, and the most beautiful plants and flowers in bloom. It's a quiet space for reflection and one my favorite hidden gems on campus.
As a Richmonder, what’s your favorite restaurant in the city? Stella's Grocery. Any location. I’m not ashamed to admit that it’s my go-to dinner at least once a week, and probably a few times for lunch, too!
Where on campus do you feel most energized? When I get to hang out with our international students, it changes my mood entirely. It’s an incredible thing to witness people from so many different life experiences, countries, and cultures – all who made an incredibly brave decision to study away from their home for university – come together in community. The students at Richmond are truly very cool!
Favorite music genre? Late 90’s to early 2000’s R&B has a special place in my heart, but I’ll listen to almost anything. My playlists are somewhere on the spectrum between Usher and Chris Stapleton.
If you could go back to college and major in a different subject, what would you pick? I loved my majors in English and Latin American, Latino, and Iberian Studies. I probably wouldn’t change them, but I’d love to add Leadership Studies to the mix. In a total pivot, Hospitality Management or Human Resource Management would also be cool; I’ve learned that I love the operations behind special events, tourism and travel. I also just enjoy learning, so honestly, I’d have a hard time picking even today!
What advice would you give to students going through the college search process? I don’t believe there’s a perfect soul mate college out there for everyone. Any college can become home with the right attitude. I find that those who are most open-minded have the least stressful college journey. When a student tells me, “I have a few favorite college choices right now,” I know they are going to be okay.
